The Cicada Story
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy takes flight from the cicada — an insect that journeys far, never alone, its chorus echoing as a statement of presence. In that song we find ourselves: carrying forward the stories of our communities, walking beside them with honesty and care, and raising a collective voice that seeks knowledge, nurtures dialogue, and inspires change.
The name draws inspiration from the cicada insect — traveling long distances in synchrony with its community, creating a powerful resonant sound that carries beyond its immediate surroundings. For CICADA Foundation, this symbolises the collective voice of grassroots communities — loud, persistent, impossible to ignore.
We seek to carry the voices of rural and tribal storytellers beyond the horizon, building a communication bridge between grassroots realities and wider audiences. CICADA is a metaphor for community strength, resilience, and the power of shared storytelling.
When you watch one of our films, attend a screening, volunteer with us, or support a workshop, you are part of the chorus too. You are why the sound carries further.
What the Cicada Symbolises
A chorus that echoes beyond its immediate surroundings — loud, persistent, impossible to ignore.
Seeking and nurturing knowledge through dialogue — between filmmakers, communities, and audiences.
Visual storytelling as a vehicle for change — carrying grassroot realities to those who need to hear them.
Be Part of the Chorus
Watch the films. Attend a screening. Host one in your own community. Or support the next round of productions and workshops — however you show up, you make the sound carry further.
