Synopsis
Kohinoor follows the journey of a young boy from the Fakir community, the first to complete Class 12, who rises from generational poverty and seasonal begging to dream of higher education. His struggle, supported by mentors and community, becomes a beacon of hope and change through the power of learning.
The Fakir community of Madhya Pradesh lives on the margins, bound by poverty and generational cycles of seasonal begging. By occupation they are agricultural laborers, but when fields fall silent, families migrate to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata to survive through begging. With no land to call their own, education remains a distant privilege, often out of reach. For thirteen years, SHEDO has worked with children and youth from the Fakir community and urban slums, instilling constitutional values and awareness of rights. Out of this struggle emerged Kohinoor, the protagonist of this documentary — a young boy who became the first in his community to complete Class 12. His achievement is not just personal; it is the collective triumph of mentors, elders, and peers who sacrificed and supported him at every step. Now, Kohinoor dreams of pursuing higher studies at Azim Premji University. For him, this is only the beginning. His journey reflects resilience against systemic exclusion and the transformative power of education. Beyond his own aspirations, Kohinoor has become a torchbearer for the youth of his community and a support system for its elders. He helps them understand their rights and duties, bridging generations with knowledge and hope. Kohinoor is a story of courage and continuity — of a boy who breaks barriers, of a community that rises with him, and of education as the light that redefines destiny.
